Gorillas, Gorilla, form a genus of great apes of the family Hominidae. Males, in particular, can develop a colossal physical strength. They are the living beings closest to humans, after the Bonobo and the Chimpanzee, since gorilla DNA is 98% to 99% identical to that of humans. Gorillas live in groups in tropical or subtropical forests, where they feed on plants and sometimes on insects. Their presence covers a small percentage of Africa and they are endangered species. However, they are found at very different altitudes. The mountain gorilla lives in the cloud forests of the Virunga Mountains, from an altitude of 2,200 to 4,300 meters. Lowland gorillas live in dense forests and lowland swamps. The coat depends on sex and age. In older males, a silvery gray fur develops on the back, hence the name "silver backs". The fur of mountain gorillas is particularly long and silky.
